Her Bright Smile

M was 8 years old on that life-changing night. He is now 15 and doing his best to "make them proud."

What's your favorite memory or memories of your mom?

In kindergarten when I would have a half day of school we would go and eat Chinese food.

What do you miss most about your mom?

Seeing her every day, and her bright smile.

Today, what would you tell an 8 year old who lost both his parents like you did?

Life is tough, but they would want you to succeed in life. Make them proud.

If you were blessed to know Kathy, take this moment to tell her courageous and precious children about what you miss or your favorite memories of her. Memories can't be taken away.

For every comment made this week (kindly leave at least your first name and location please), my family will make an additional monetary donation to our local women’s and children’s shelter in Kathy’s memory from her children. Please offer your prayers, thanks, support, and appreciation for T, J, P, and M. They really did put it all out there for this. Although they may not know it, sharing their perspectives is admirable and courageous, and it just might save a life.

T, J, P, M -- Your mom was so, so special to me. She spent a lot of time with us when I was growing up. I loved it when she helped my mom take us to the lake. We'd also "party" in her brown station wagon and listen to Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, and much more '80s music. I'll never forget her laughing along with us when she drove around with L & me one night. Her laugh was contagious!

What brave kids. Their stories brought tears to my eyes. I'm so sorry for the pain your family endured.

It is quite apparent the wonderful mother that Kathy was to her children. Her beautiful, strong and loving children are such a testament to her memory. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts about this event, I know that God is using your creative voices to reach others.

T,J,P,M- I know your mom is so proud of you all. Sharing your stories this week is definitely courageous. I loved when you and your mom would come up to the pumpkin patch. We had lots of fun times there. I also loved getting a card from your mom every birthday. I don't think she ever forgot one. The envelope wouldn't have a return address it would just simply say "us" and by the handwriting I knew immediately who it was from.

So many great memories of your mom, where do I start? I remember how much your mom loved you guys! She always had a smile on her face around you kids!! I remember going 2 church w/ your mom and when we were kneeling she would sit back on the pew like I did- I always felt like she was trying 2 not make me feel like I was the only one doing it, so I wasn't the odd one sticking out. I remember Kathy wearing my sis and my hand-me- downs 4 P and J! That always made me laugh-esp the jumper things! I remember sometimes at Xmas her and my mom and others would take turns playing the piano! I remember writing a book about Kathy being my fav aunt and how I used 2 think she reminded me of Mariah Carey! I remember she used 2 put a towel up between the 2 front seats of that red car so if she ever crashed, the towel would keep you kids from flying through the wind shield. She loved all you kids so much! You were so blessed 2 have her!

T, J, P & M: Although I didn't know your mom as long and as well as you and your family, I am honored to have been blessed to meet her. She was an amazing woman, loving mother and dedicated nurse. Her kind, warm smile will forever leave an imprint on my heart. It is very apparent of her love for you all, especially in the stories you have so bravely shared and also in who the young adults you've all become. She is so very proud of each of you and will forever be your guardian angel. Many blessings to each of you as you continue your journey in this gift of life.
