Pitchman

It was around 11:30 pm when J ambled out into the living room where we were still awake watching TV. Earlier that day, he felt warmer than usual and took a late afternoon nap, so we weren’t entirely surprised by his late night appearance. Too lazy to get up and tuck him back in, I noted that he seemingly was afebrile and offered a place by me on the couch. Steve turned the channel to one with a string of superhero cartoons just waiting to be viewed.

There’s something about Spiderman that makes me pretty sleepy, so within minutes I was out cold. So out, that I awoke on the couch seven hours later to find the TV off and J in his own bed. I just assumed that was Steve’s doing.

While I was getting ready for church, Steve entered the bathroom saying, “I think J watched his first infomercial last night.”

With an expression of curiosity, I asked, “Why? What time did you put him to bed?”

Steve replied, “I didn’t. I fell asleep right after he woke up last night. I’ll let him tell you about it.”

We both know that as long as the TV is on, J will not be sleeping. Nobody knows how long our night owl was awake, but I do know that as soon as I shut the car door and latched my seatbelt (I am always the last person in the vehicle on Sunday mornings. Always.), the little pitchman began in a very enthusiastic manner.

“Mom, I have the perfect Valentine’s gift for you. It’s called the EZ Cracker. You put an egg in it, and you squeeze this thing and it doesn’t get on everything. No messy hands, countertop, or stove! The shells don’t get into it either, like in muffins. It’s so easy to use. You can get two for the low price of $9.99. But you have to be 18 years or older to order. Doesn’t that sound awesome?”

So, how many are you going to order?
