To kick off the marathon weekend, the kids participated in the annual Mayor's Run. This is J's third year of running a mile around the state capitol building with thousands of other children, but E went into the race as a rookie.
She even got some new go-fasters for the occasion. I was ashamed to find out that her old ones were 1.5 sizes too small. Sorry, baby! No wonder they make you faster. Curled under toes would slow down anyone.
Although it was HOT, it was also lots of fun. In order to avoid lost children, we teamed up. Steve accompanied E, and they made it about a block before she complained of a side ache. They probably went about a third of the way. That's pretty much what we expected from our girl with little tolerance for organized physical activity.
J and I were off and running, but he also complained of a side ache about halfway through. I have no idea why side aches were a dime a dozen that morning, but we did finish eventually. After gulping down Gatorades, we made our way home to cool off and get ready for the next race. The prepping included many, many prayers for cooler weather.
On your marks...get set...go!

9 years of living here and we never did the mayor's run. oh well. such cute pictures! maybe next time instead of "go fasters", you should buy "no side-achers". :)
