Maybe I Should Be Working More

Me:  What do you love about J?

E:  He's kind to me.

Me:  What do you love about Daddy?

E:  He works so hard for us.

Me:  What do you love about me?

E:  I love you because you work so I can go to H's.*


*H is the greatest daycare provider ever, not to mention a beautiful friend.  Love her!

E:  Mom and Dad don't even know what we're doing in here!

Halloween

More fun and games for us, but this time it was all about Halloween. 

E decided a few days before that she wanted to be an angel.  J had Zeus in mind after checking out a book about Greek mythology.

 

On Halloween Eve (I guess that's what one would call the day prior to Halloween.), we participated in our church's Trunk or Treat. 

 

Many people didn't make the Zeus or Greek god connection.  Several just thought J was dressed up as the God.  We all know the God would be carrying more than a lightning bolt though.

 

 

We didn't go over the top.  Actually, we put very little effort into it at all.  We just used some of E's birthday stuff.  Steve's Operation game was a hit.  And why wouldn't it be?  That thing is pretty awesome.

 

The Zeus costume was a total fail and was off in about 15 minutes.  That's what happens when your non-sewing mother constructs your costume out of an old sheet and safety pins five minutes before you get into the car.  Apparently, she did not attend toga parties in college.

 

Our conversation when we were at home that night...

Me:  J, what are we going to do about your costume for actual Trick or Treating?

                 J:  I don't know.  But that was a disaster.  An epic disaster.

 

The funniest part of the entire evening occurred when I took a break from our car to go check on our kids.  Steve said that a little kid went up to this sign, touched the giant lollipop, and then licked it.  Kids are hilarious.

This stayed together much better on Halloween.

 

Wow, your mom's a diabetes educator, and you're going to eat that?

 

Yep, that's pretty much how the story ends every Halloween at our house.

And they all ate candy happily ever after.

Birthday Fun

The day before Halloween, E and I were in Hobby Lobby grabbing some last minute costume supplies.  While we were walking through the store, I said, "Look at all the Christmas stuff.  We have to get through Halloween first."  She then replied, "Yeah, first it's Halloween.  Then it's the P!nk concert, and then it's Christmas." 

 

Oh, she knows alright.

 

Before all of those holidays ensue, I better play catch up on some of our recent celebrations.

 

E turned five!

And we all know that it's all fun and games to be five.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 When we heard Grandma and Grandpa were dressing as the Monopoly guy,

 

we countered as Hungry, Hungry Hippos.

This was totally a last minute idea.  Obviously.

It wouldn't be an S family birthday party if Steve wasn't spray painting by flashlight the night before.

Steve crafted a large Operation game.  It even buzzes and lights up at the center of the bow tie if you don't have a steady hand.  There's a "best dad ever" award coming his way!

 

 

 

 The birthday girl was able to successfully grab all ten pieces of candy.  Exciting!
